The
ATPI Summer Workshop for Instructors Only has
offered
specialized instruction to over 350 teachers for
more than 11 years. This three-and-a-half day
workshop
allows teachers to choose from one of several tracks,
providing opportunities for improving personal
skills
and classroom activities. Teachers from all curriculum
areas (art, journalism, industrial technology,
vocational
education) make new friends and learn from each other
in a relaxed, fun atmosphere.
The
$200 registration fee covers the workshop, all lunches,
dinner on Friday evening (with the possibility of
some of the other dinners being included as well),
the ATPI Curriculum CD and other fun items. Teachers
that have attended the Summer Workshop in the past
who bring one new person with them this year can register
both individuals for $175 each.
The
workshop will be held at Texas A&M University
in Commerce, TX. Supporters for the workshop include
Adobe (Tom Dent), Apple Computers (Jeff Dawson),
Olympus America (John Knaur), Photo Imaging
Education Association (Tom Crawford and Ken Lassiter.)
Other sponsors may be added.
Participants
can choose to stay at the Holiday Inn or the Holiday
Lodge in Commerce, less than five minutes from
the campus. The Holiday Inn has lowered
their rate to $59.99/night
plus 7% city tax. The rate at the Holiday Lodge
is $49.99/night plus 2% city
tax (make sure you bring your state sales tax exemption

The
Classes
InDesign
Adobe InDesign is quickly becoming the industry
standard for publication design. This class, designed
for teachers who are switching from another page
layout program or who want a good understanding
of the software, will offer hands-on instruction
and answers to all of your questions in how to use
this application.
All computers and software will
be provided but feel free to bring a laptop if
you would like to use your own. Bring some copies
of
your publication(s) to share as well.
This class
will be led by Rochelle Palmberg, Hebron HS,
and Pat Gathright, MacArthur HS. On Friday, a trainer
from Adobe will join the group.
Idea Generator
Inspired teachers inspire students. Participants
in the Idea Generator workshop will share and create
projects for the teacher and student. We’ll
discuss how to encourage creativity and develop
an ongoing strategy to tap into deeper creative
levels and empower teacher and student to create
work at a more expressive level. Participants will
share existing ideas and develop new assignments
for others to try.
Participants will choose from a list of new ideas developed by the class and
create images based on assignments as if they were students. Bring a 35mm camera
or digital camera and five current project ideas to share. Film and developing
will be provided. Participants should have basic knowledge of film development
and darkroom techniques and/or digital imaging techniques.
Tom Delaney, Fort Worth Country Day School, and Jeff Grimm, Trinity HS, will
team-teach this class.
ILife
Visual communication has moved beyond static images
and words. In this class, teachers utilize state-of-the-art
multimedia programs to develop interactive projects
for the classroom.
All equipment and software will be provided for class participants unless you‘d
like to bring your own digital video and still cameras to work with. Bring some
CD-R to take your work home.
This class will be led by Jake Palenske, NCompass Media, and assisted by Craig
Coyle, Sam Houston HS.
The Working Photographer
Work with three professional photographers in a digital
environment to gain a better understanding of the
day-to-day process of photojournalism and editorial
photography. Participants will develop story and
assignment ideas and then work through the shooting
and editing process with the help of the three instructors.
This class is limited to 15 participants who will each have an Olympus E-1 digital
camera to work with during the workshop. Feel free to bring your own digital
camera to use.
This class will be led by professional photographers John
Isaac and Jeffrey Aaronson along with John Knaur from Olympus.
