The ATPI Summer Workshop for Instructors Only has offered specialized instruction to over 550 teachers for 15 years. This three-and-a-half day workshop allows teachers to choose from one of several tracks, providing opportunities for improving personal skills and classroom activities. Teachers from all curriculum areas (art, journalism, industrial technology, vocational education) make new friends and learn from each other in a relaxed, fun atmosphere.

The $225 registration fee covers the workshop, all lunches, dinner on Wednesday and Friday evening and other fun items. Teachers that have attended the Summer Workshop in the past who bring one new person with them this year can register both individuals for $175 each. All workshop participants will receive a certificate for hours earned.

The workshop will be held at Texas A&M University in Commerce, TX. Supporters for the workshop include Olympus America (John Knaur), B&H Photo/Video, the Photo Imaging Education Association and Stan Godwin Photography. Other sponsors may be added.

Participants can stay at the University Inn in Commerce, less than five minutes from the campus. The hotel has free wireless internet access to all of the rooms. The rate at the University Inn is $53.99/night (single or double) plus 7% city tax. Make sure you bring your state sales tax exemption form in order not to pay the 6% state tax. Rooms must be reserved by June 27 with a credit card. Contact the University Inn at 1-903-886-3165 to make reservations.

The Classes
Adobe Photoshop Intermediate
Brought to you by the letters 'M' and 'S', this working class will provide advanced basic and intermediate skills using Photoshop. Participants will work with color and B&W conversions for print and fine art. Film and print scanning, color management and digital asset management will be included.
This class assumes a basic working knowledge of Photoshop and will teach the teacher the proper way to convert analog and digital media for print or inkjet output. Additional subjects will include working with selections, curves, color balance, actions, collaging, and using Adobe Lightroom for working in RAW, file management and archiving.
Participants must bring at least five digital files (preferably RAW) and will also be shooting on site, so bring a digital SLR camera with you. All computers and software will be provided but feel free to bring a laptop if you would like to use your own.
This class will be led by Stan Godwin, Cape Cod retiree, and Mark Murray, Arlington ISD.

Convergence Made Simple
The buzzword in Journalism is Convergence...the melding of print, photo, video and electronic mediums into a big, confusing pile of goo. Describing convergence is difficult, and integrating it into your classroom can seem impossible. This course has been designed to take the confusion out of convergence. You'll learn how to easily get your newspaper online, how to create Podcasts and DVD yearbook supplements, how to structure your staff like a converged newsroom, and how to teach your students the technology behind all of the above.
Equipment and software will be provided for class participants but we’d encourage you to bring your own digital video and still cameras to work with if you have them.
This class will be led by Jake Palenske, NCompass Media.

Funtography: Holgas, Dianas, Toy Cameras and How I Found My Soul Again
Recover that funky smell as you get back into the darkroom to take a fresh look at novelty film cameras. Learn how to integrate plastic cameras and other special equipment into your classroom and teach students the joys of happy accidents.
Equipment will be available for class participants but we’d encourage you to take a quick look at Lomography to see a wonderland of fun cameras and find a new love..
This class will be led into a ditch by Daniel Regalado, Martin HS, Arlington.

Visual Communication
Learning to tell stories through photographs is one of the most important skills a photographer needs. For this class you'll choose a story topic in the local community and will spend three days building your story package as you work with two Pulitzer-prize winning photographers to see storytelling in a whole new way.
This class will be led by John Knaur, Senior Marketing Manager for Digital SLRs for Olympus America, and two Pulitzer prize-winning photographers - Jay Dickman and Skeeter Hagler (listed this way because Skeeter won his first but Jay's is newer.)

Where Do I Start?
You’ve just found out that you have been assigned three photography classes for next year and you have no idea what to do with them. You just started teaching but your photography classes in college included one introductory class that was more than four years ago. You have two enlargers and 40 students in the classroom.
Learn tips for classroom management, assignment ideas, grading systems, and 101 other ways to make life a little easier.
Bring any equipment you have questions about. Jeff Grimm, Trinity HS, Euless, will supply all the answers.
