Summer Workshop

The ATPI Summer Workshop for Instructors Only has offered specialized instruction to over 800 teachers for more than 24 years. This three day workshop allows teachers to choose from one of several tracks, providing opportunities for improving personal skills and classroom activities. Teachers from all curriculum areas (art, journalism, industrial technology, vocational education) make new friends and learn from each other in a relaxed, fun atmosphere.

Digital Tech Workflow
with Stan Godwin
A series of half-day modules will provide teachers with instruction in working with RAW and HDR files, Color Management and Inkjet Printing, and Bookmaking. The class will include instruction in both Photoshop and Lightroom, but will concentrate on Lightroom for the majority of the work.
The class will be led by Stan Godwin, digital educator and popular workshop instructor. Teachers should bring their digital camera, a tripod, a USB drive of sufficient size with at least 30-35 images, your own laptop if you prefer to use it (with the latest versions of Photoshop and Lightroom), and plenty of questions.

Where Do I Start?
with Jeff Grimm and Michael Peña
Inspired teachers can inspire students. Participants in the Where Do I Start? (or Idea Generator) workshop will share and create project ideas. We’ll discuss how to encourage creativity and develop strategies to tap into deeper creative levels. Participants will share existing ideas and develop new assignments for others to try.
Bring your camera(s), computer, flash drives and ENTHUSIASM! If you have five current project ideas to share you’ll be a life-saver for others as well. Participants should have basic knowledge of digital imaging techniques.
Learn tips for classroom management, assignment ideas, grading systems, and 101 other ways to make life a little easier.
Bring any equipment you have questions about (including those which don’t work – we’ll do what we can).
Michael Peña, Euless Trinity HS, and Jeff Grimm, geezer, will team teach this class.

The Working Photographer
with John Isaac, John Knaur and Ian McVea
Work with three professional photographers in a classroom and field environment to gain a better understanding of the day-to-day process of photojournalism, street and documentary photography. Participants will develop story ideas and then work through the shooting and editing process with the help of the three instructors.
This class will be led by award-winning photographer John Isaac, John Knaur, and Ian McVea. The class is limited to 15 participants, and starts with an overview of John Isaac’s work flow tips on working an image in Photoshop to get the best print. Photography in Fort Worth’s Stockyard and downtown area during the workshop will be part of this class.
Bring your digital camera with extra batteries, a selection of lenses from wide to telephoto, a flash, tripod and memory, and any questions you have.

Registration Fee Discount

As a special incentive to encourage some new people to join us, any teacher who has previously attended the ATPI Summer Workshop can bring one new person this year (someone who has never attended) and receive a $25 discount on both registrations – pay only $250/person. Both registrations should be mailed together to make it easier for us to keep track of them or include a note with each registration letting us know the two names that should be linked.

We have rooms blocked at Hyatt Place Fort Worth/Hurst for the ATPI Summer Workshop.

When figuring rates, add 6% state tax and 7% city tax. To be exempt from the state tax, you must submit a Hotel Occupancy Tax Exemption Form. No other form will work. Schools are not exempt from the city tax. Reservations must be made by May 22, 2017 and guaranteed with a credit card. Hyatt Place offers free wireless internet access and a hot breakfast.

We are shortening the schedule to make it easier for you to participate. We’ll start earlier on the first day, but end on the third day. The schedule is always subject to minor changes.
