Rising Star Portfolio Contest

This contest is designed for schools that want to compete in a portfolio contest, but don’t feel ready to compete for the Top Program award. Schools submit up to four 10-image portfolios representing at least four students’ work.

  • Entry fee is $20 per school

Rules and Submission Guidelines

  • Entries no longer require prints. All entries will be judged from the digital files only.
  • Schools may enter 10-image portfolios in up to four categories. The Rising Star Award will be presented to the school with the highest number of winning portfolios, with four points awarded for a first place portfolio in each category, three points for second place, two points for third place and one point for honorable mention.
  • Sponsoring teacher must be a Texas member of ATPI.
  • All images must have been taken after the deadline of the previous contest – April 28, 2023 and while working with the sponsoring teacher.
  • Individual students may not have more than three images in any one portfolio.
  • Entries in the Documentary / Photojournalism category should not contain digital manipulation.
  • Images that utilize Artificial Intelligence (AI) can only be entered as part of a thematic portfolio and should clearly state in the description field in the metadata the program(s) used and explain the original elements, which must be the work of the student.
  • Schools must upload a digital copy of each portfolio to the ATPI contest site by 6 pm on April 12, 2024. Include the required metadata in each image file (instructions here) and upload all 10 images under the teacher’s account.
